A local businessman opened a new old fashioned barbershop yesterday, and both mayoral candidates were there praising it as a wonderful thing, the likes of which must be repeated many times over if we are to pull out of the economic doldrums. Sorry, both candidates are wrong. Businesses of this type, while nice, merely rearrange the dollars already in our community. What we really need are businesses that import money from outside our community, that increase the total dollars circulating in Colorado Springs. I suspect both mayoral candidates know this, but sought to say something nice for the television cameras.
